Stroke · independent living

Travelling alone to Thailand

After a stroke, 73-year-old Inger regained her stability through a rehabilitation course with MOTO tiles in Viborg municipality, Denmark. Her greatest wish was to visit her son in Thailand, and she made the trip by herself.

Wasted lower-limb muscles

Walking at her daughter's wedding

At Home Medicare in Penang, Malaysia, a patient who could not stand up trained for 5 weeks on MOTO tiles. She gained strength and confidence in her legs, walked with only a walking frame, and travelled to her daughter's wedding in Singapore.

Throw away the cane

From a 4-point cane to walking outside

Arne trained every week for 4 months on a MOTO team at a day care centre in Viborg municipality. He started with a 4-point cane; now he walks outside and has gained a completely different freedom.

Play

Play is for everyone

Play is a free and voluntary activity that we do for life-fulfilling enjoyment. When we play, we forget about time and place, and we can often do more than we normally would. That is why play with the right playware tool can have significant health effects.

Play creates happiness, and the fun spirit brings social interaction. Players and trainers find MOTO tiles very fun and motivating: they laugh together while playing the games.

Easy use

Ready to play within 1 minute

  1. Turn on the tiles
  2. Put the tiles together
  3. Turn on the tablet
  4. Select a game
  5. Play

Trainers and carers build their own fields in seconds: a rectangle, a square, a horseshoe, tiles further apart, with cones and other objects. Small is smart: no installation or large space needed, and the set is easy to carry and put away.

Implementation

Easy to fit into daily care and training

The games, levels and intensity are adjusted with one click to fit each person.

Effect

A welfare technology with proven effect

15 scientific publications on clinical trials in Denmark, Japan, PR China and Taiwan show significant effects on physical and cognitive performance.

+149%
Better balance test

in a randomised controlled trial with seniors averaging 83 years.

+80%
Better balance test

for frail seniors after merely 1 hour of play.

+100%
Leg strength

in a Danish trial that also improved balance and mobility.

Also seen in the trials

  • Significant effects on standard tests such as Timed Up & Go, Chair Stand, Berg Balance Scale and the 6-minute walk test
  • Cognitive gains in seniors with dementia: MoCA, Digit Span, reaction time and n-back
  • Seniors grew 1–2 cm taller, and frail seniors stopped using their rollator

In total, 4–6 hours of play on MOTO tiles gives statistically significant effects on physical and cognitive abilities.

Health economy: fall prevention

Half of seniors over 80 and a third of those over 65 fall every year. An injurious fall costs around €26,500. If 10,000 seniors train with MOTO tiles:

  • an estimated 2,760 falls avoided a year: €28 million saved
  • fewer moves to care homes: another €15 million a year
  • €43 million a year in total, about 8 times the €5.5 million initial investment

The product

What's in a MOTO tiles set

10 MOTO tiles, 1 charging station, 1 adaptor, the MOTO app with games, 1 manual and packaging, plus a 10-inch MOTO tablet (Android) with the app installed. The whole set weighs 5 kg and is ready to use within a minute.

MOTO tiles spread out, lit in different colours

MOTO tiles

Each 30 × 30 cm tile senses pressure and has 8 lights that shine in all the colours of the rainbow. Like LEGO bricks, they fit together in a line, a square, a horseshoe and more, or spread apart for longer runs. Changing the size and shape changes how hard the games are.

Rechargeable battery

Each tile has its own rechargeable battery (3.7 V, 1150 mAh) that lasts up to 15 hours of use, and recharges in 2–3 hours in the charging station.

The MOTO charging station with tiles inside

Charging station

Put the tiles into the charging station like plates into a dishwasher. The station also makes the whole set easy to carry.

Certified and patented

Certified CE, FCC, ASTM and Japan Radio Law. Moto Tiles® and Moto® are registered trademarks, the design is registered, and the technology is patented in the US, Europe and Japan.

MOTO app

Pre-installed on the tablet: tap it, pick a game and press play. Choose the game, difficulty, time and number of players. The app records score and time for every player, for automatic documentation of effect.

Games

15 games in the basic package and more than 40 in total: physical challenges, balance, brain training, memory, speed and sound games. The difficulty is easy to match to your users.

MOTO Cloud

Scores and times are uploaded online, so you can follow progress from any computer or smartphone with a secure log-in.
